Started in 2008 by former VeggieTales executives, Brentwood Studios partners with producers and content owners to develop new ideas, and manage brands that kids love and parents appreciate. Leveraging experience, creative, and strategic thinking, Brentwood Studios works with our partners to create new products, and advance licensing, strategic alliances, distribution, sales, and marketing. Brentwood is led by Bob Starnes, Brock Starnes and Dan Lynch who joined the team in 2016. Dan most recently served as Publisher and Founder at B&H Kids, a division of Lifeway and prior as VP/Publisher for TommyNelson. Brentwood Studios is based in Franklin, Tennessee.
Meet the Team
Bob Starnes, Partner
Bob Starnes career began in retail at Target, where he served as the youngest operations executive in their history. Building on his time at Target, Bob went on to open a chain of children’s retail stores which won the Playthings Magazine award for “Best Up and Coming Toy Retailers of the 90’s” (FAO Schwarz was the co-winner). Bob went on to oversee stores for Lemstone Christian Bookstores and then served as VP of Licensing and Publishing at Big Idea VeggieTales before opening Brentwood Studios with Terry Pefanis and Brock Starnes.
Brock Starnes, Partner
Brock Starnes began his career by leading VeggieTale live events and tours including major partnerships with some of the world’s largest music festivals. Brock has advised and produced content for leading children’s educational brands, has launched businesses, and holds a Masters degree from Victoria University in Wellington New Zealand where he researched the roles of key relationships amongst technology startups. Brock’s work extends beyond advising C-Suite and children’s brands and into the creative process where he has produced animated shorts for business and startup associations. For the past 8 years he has served Brentwood Studios as Partner where he operates as COO and Sr. Advisor to clients, primarily in children's entertainment.
Dan Lynch, Partner
Dan Lynch is a seasoned publishing and entertainment media executive with a 30+ year proven track record of successes in the fields of product development, team building, marketing, social networking, and on-budget project management. Dan served for over 20 years in kids and teen publishing on the Tommy Nelson (VP Marketing/Branding and Executive Producer) and B&H Kids (Publisher, Executive Producer) teams. Dan also worked as a VP of Marketing in the Christian music industry with labels including Benson and Word Records. Some of the brands Dan has managed and built include Max Lucado’s Hermie and Friends, Sheila Walsh’s Gigi God’s Little Princess, Bibleman, Read and Share Bible Stories, Big Picture Interactive Bible, Teen to Teen.
For over 25 years Mark has been a leader in the faith-based products industry. Beginning in Christian music, Mark oversaw the marketing for Gold selling albums with Stephen Curtis Chapman, Newsboys, Point Of Grace and many more. He also led the domestic music marketing efforts for several churches and ministries including Hillsong and Passion. The last 10 years Mark has focused on music, curriculum, VBS programs and video gaming with children’s brands including Hillsong Kids, What’s In The Bible?, Yancy Ministries, Go Fish, Superbook, Miss PattyCake, The Aetherlight, The Lads, KidMo, God Rocks! and Shout! Praises Kids.
Tim Cleary has worked as a creative for more than a decade, applying his unique talents to a wide array of fields, from ministry to game design to consulting. As a youth leader and international public speaker, Tim is as comfortable on a stage before thousands as he is around a board table or a camp fire. Youth ministry in Auckland, New Zealand, is where Tim first found his feet. In a nutshell, Tim is a worldbuilder, crafting new worlds that others can enjoy in gaming and fiction, but also helping churches, businesses, creatives and individuals, reimagine their own worlds in new, exciting and dynamic ways.
For the last 35 years, Stevehas Produced for TV and Live Events and in the past decade has served as VP of Marketing and Sales for Quaver’s Marvelous World of Music– the very first online Music Curriculum, now available in thousands of schools. As Producer, Steve has developed shows including ‘Mr. Henry’s Wild & Wacky World’ starring best-selling author Frank Peretti (over 15 million books sold); the ‘BibleMan’ PowerSource series for Thomas Nelson. The youth market has always been a special focus for other promotional work that Steve has developed and executed over the years, for clients including Jeep, Sony, Nintendo, Ray Ban, Tretorn, and Prince Tennis. In television, Steve served as the Executive Producer of ‘America’s Dumbest Criminals’ (widely syndicated by Paramount Television), produced The Dove Awards in Nashville for a decade and numerous music specials starring notables Ray Charles, Mavis Staples, Charlie Daniels, Randy Travis, President George W. Bush, Kirk Franklin, Amy Grant, Pele, Michael W. Smith, and Chris Tomlin.
